CELEBRATING OT MONTH WITH FUN ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT

HAPPY OT MONTH!! Every April, we celebrate Occupational Therapy Month to honor our vital profession and the meaningful differences it makes in the lives of our clients.

OTs can assist patients with a variety of diagnoses including traumatic brain injury, concussions, stroke, cerebral palsy, burns, fractures, spinal cord injury, orthopedic impairments, oculomotor deficits, autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorders, developmental delays and more! Learn more about WESTARM’s Occupational Therapy program here.

Fred Sammons, one of the forefathers of adaptive equipment, was an Occupational Therapist.  Here are some examples of fun OT adaptive equipment:

For those who like to cook: Here is a one-handed cutting board to assist those who may only have one arm to work with!

In time for fishing season: Here is an adapted fishing pole for anyone who may have difficulty maintaining their grip!

For those who love to accessorize: This is perfect for anyone with arthritis or difficulty maneuvering small objects by holding your bracelet still, making it easier to clasp!

For the athletes: Here is a one handed jump rope that allows someone with an amputation to continue to stay active!

For your loved ones: this strap assists those who want to be able to hug but are unable to independently lift one of their arms!

If you are looking for a happy, heartwarming cry, here is the link to the article and video of a patient using it for the first time to hug his grandchildren!

Do you have a friend or family member that could benefit from OT services to improve participation in desired activities or occupations and improve their quality of life? Find your nearest WESTARM location with Occupational Therapists who can help and give us a call today.
